Fall in New England

Day 1

-       Fly into Boston Logan Airport

-       Uber to & stay at the Hotel AKA Back Bay

o   Great location easily walkable to a lot of areas

o  It is the old Boston Police headquarters so the historical aspect is nice.

-       Met up with our Bostonian friend, took a long walk to the Union Oyster House where we obviously had oysters & some rosé.

o  This was established in 1826, and is considered America’s oldest restaurant. Plus, the booth JFK always sat in is there too!

-       Stopped at the Sam Adams Tap Room to have a Boston Lager in Boston. (DUH)

-       Walked down to the East End to have some Italian for dinner and grab some cannolis.

-       Finished out by checking out the Green Dragon Bar where the Revolution was planned!

Day 2

-       We woke up & had a really nice breakfast at the hotel restaurant Precinct.

o  This restaurant was always very busy in the evenings.

o  For breakfast had the Crab Cake Benedict which is easily shareable.

-       Walked to Beacon Hill area to browse shops and see the most photographed Acorn Street!

o  Our walk from the hotel took us through Boston Common which was lovely, and the squirrels are super tame.

-       Stopped at the Cheers bar to check it out.

o  This place was wildly packed at 11:30 so advice is if that’s a desire definitely arrive early!

-       Best shopping stop was Beacon Hill Chocolates, who gather chocolates from around the world

o  They had the CUTEST array of Halloween themed chocolates.

o  HINT get the birthday cake truffle!

-       After that we had reservations at the Tasting Counter, which is a chef’s tasting in Somerville (about 15 min Uber from our hotel).

o  9 course meal with a beverage pairing of your choosing: beer, wine, sake, or non-alcoholic.

o  You pay for a ticket ahead of time which includes gratuity and payment.

o  It was truly wonderful, they gather foods from the surrounding areas and cook directly front of you.

o  Afterwards, you have the option to purchase any wines, vinegars, jams, purees, etc. they may have used.

Day 3

-       Wake up early to pick-up rental car and head to Stowe, Vermont.

-       Stop in Waterbury to visit the Ben & Jerry’s Factory.

o  Tickets were sold-out due to staffing issues, so I would advise you buy ahead, or just stand in line to have ice cream. They have flavors that you can only get there. Ben, Jerry RELEASE Marshmallow Sky!

o  Visit the flavor graveyard for some laughs!

-       Finish drive to Stowe and stop in at the Von Trapp Bierhall for some Sound of Music vibes and a nice lager!

o  This is ACTUALLY the family that inspired Sound of Music and they moved to Vermont because it felt like Austria.

Day 4

-       Visit the Gold Brook Covered Bridge to see where Emily’s ghost hangs out!

o  Story is, she was from a poor family & fell in love with a man from a rich family. For the time, they couldn’t get married, so the man told her to wait at the bridge for him to flee. But he never showed, being so distraught she committed suicide.

-       Lunch at the Von Trapp Bierhall.

o  We made reservations which is necessary!

o  We ordered the Austrian Grill, which is several different types of brats, different salads and was easily enough for all 7 of us.

-       Drive 45 minutes to Burlington to see the University of Vermont (and drop one of the group members at the airport), as well as visit Lake Champlain.

-       Dinner at The Bistro at Ten Acres.

o  Highly recommend, our waitress was amazing in telling us about Vermont life, and the food was incredible!

Day 5

-       Visit the Stowe Farmer’s Market

-       View some Pumpkin Chucking

o  Look this up, it is W I L D.

-       See Stowe Main Street.

-       Head to Woodstock about an hour away.

-       Stop for lunch at Cold Hollow Cider Mill.

o   Get a sandwich, they were incredible. The Roast Beef Florentine is now in my dreams.

-       Eat dinner in New Hampshire because Woodstock was crazy busy

Day 6

-       Wake up at the Quality Inn and eat breakfast

-    Stop to see Quechee Gorge before heading to see Woodstock.

-       Walk through some stores before eating at Mont Vert Cafe for lunch.

o   Warning this takes a while!

-       Finish browsing stores before heading into the hills to visit SugarBush Farm.

o   Try the Cream Soda

o   Try all the samples and be aware you are definitely bringing back maple syrup and cheese! They ship too!

-       Eat Dinner at the Public House Tavern.

Day 7

-       Up early to head to Salem

-       Visit the Witch Museum before heading to lunch on the bay.

o Salem is extremely witch oriented obviously so, if you aren’t into crystals and all that, browsing stores isn’t necessary for a whole day.

-   We saw the sights and headed to hotel near airport.

-       Ate dinner at airport hotel, and took it easy.

Day 8

-   Flew home.
